Montpellier Gardens - The Family Screen
The Location
There is an existing precedent for staging outdoor events within the gardens. The site will comfortably allow for a large gathering of people, where there are local amenities, transport links with trains, buses and taxis nearby.
A large cinema screen will be positioned at the gardens West end, facing away from the road, toward the parks interior; the space then becomes framed by the surrounding trees, creating a defined auditorium environment. Logistically this will ensure, from a health and safety perspective, that there is no audio/visual distraction to passing vehicles. This will also provide a defined perimeter that can be rigorously policed by the local authorities and a reputable, security company who will be employed to monitor crowd control. A first aid team will be present.
The Event
Montpellier Gardens will host a “walk-in” cinema event – providing an open-air viewing experience, equivalent to an American drive-in. It will be free for the general public to attend. The Family screen will show family orientated films explicitly, targeting family audiences, though it will be open to the general public as a whole. The “walk in” dynamic will allow for family’s etc to have an evening out and participate in a slightly different, wholly accessible, cinematic gathering.
As the screen will be visually and audibly accessible to a passing general public we will show mainstream cinema of a Universal (U) and Parental Guidance (PG) certificate only. This will ensure suitability for as wide and diverse an audience as possible, relative to parental discretion. We will consequently avoid having to monitor the age of those in attendance.
